Want to learn the language of the Qur’ān? Want to understand the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم’s words directly? Want to learn the Language of Islām?
Al Imām Ibn Taymiyah asserted:
“The essence of the Arabic language is from the Religion, and learning it is an obligation. For surely the understanding of the Qur’ān & Sunnah is mandatory, and that cannot happen without understanding Arabic”. (Iqtiḍā’ al Ṣirāṭ al Mustaqīm, 1/470)
Dar Al Irshad has meticulously structured a two-year Arabic Language course to offer Muslims the opportunity to learn the Arabic language from a beginner to an advanced level. We will be teaching a merge between Classical Arabic & Modern Standard Arabic equipping the student with speaking, reading, writing & grammar skills.
The course will be divided in three parts. Part One will consist of Nahw and Sarf and will deal with the Arabic Grammar (Syntax and Morphology). Part Two will be dedicated towards Arabic speaking (Hiwar). And Part Three will be for Reading and Writing.
Naḥw is the study of Arabic Grammar/Syntax where a student learns to correctly convey meanings in Arabic, form coherent sentences & work to correctly read/comprehend the ending of Arabic words.
Ṣarf (also referred as morphology/etymology) is the area through which a student learns the internal assembly of a word by way of patterns of vowelisation & introduction of extra letters.
Simply, Naḥw deals with vowel of the last letter whilst Ṣarf deals with the forms of words.
Works:
Naḥw (Syntax): Tashīl al Naḥw (based on ‘Ilm al Naḥw of Ml Mushtāq Aḥmad Charthawalī) prepared by Sh ‘Aamir Bashīr)
Ṣarf (Morphology): Tashīl al Ṣarf (compiled by Madrasah Islaamiyyah Benoni)
Speaking Arabic is the most fun way to engage with Arabic. Here a student will go through a series of different conversations in Arabic such as introduction, at the shopping centre/mall, with guests, at work, at a holiday/trip etc. By listening to the teacher repeatedly, and gradually getting into speaking it yourself, Arabic conversation will be a fun task ahead.
Instead of just delivering a lesson, the teacher will induce the student to speak following the Me-We-You approach of learning. By the student speaking to the teacher and to other students, he/she will build the confidence and skills to speak themselves.
This subject will focus on the following:
