Overview

Dar Al Irshad has carefully structured together a one-year Islamic Essentials course to equip every Muslim and Muslimah with the essentials of Islām. We will be teaching Islamic Beliefs, Jurisprudence, Spirituality & the Quadruple: basics of Uṣūl al Tafsīr & Uṣūl al Ḥadīth, Uṣūl al Fiqh & Sīrah of the Prophet ﷺ.

We also teach ALL Four Schools of Thought/Madhhabs:  Ḥanafī, Mālikī, Shāfi’ī & Ḥanbalī. Pick your madhhab and start studying.

Learning the essential aspects of one’s Islām is farḍ ʿayn (compulsory) on every single male and female Muslim. The essentials include anything a person needs to apply Islām in their lives.

Today, people are spending 15-20 years in the rat-race of Secular Education but, unfortunately, most are not dedicating even a few years for learning their Deen competently. At the same time, with the busy schedule of the fast life that envelops all people in modern society, the masses need a short course that equips them with the essential parts of their Deen. With the help of Allāh, Dar Al Irshad is set on fulfilling this role.

Below is the description of the one-year course we have designed. Every Muslim should make it a target to join this course and encourage others to do the same. This is the path in which angels place their wings underneath the feet of its travelers, ants and fishes supplicate and ask forgiveness for its seekers, and the way for Jannah is paved for its explorers.

By successfully completing this course, you will:

Learning Path

The Islamic Essentials Course will include the study of Four Subjects, namely: ʿAqīdah & Beliefs, Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Islamic Spirituality & Akhlāq, Quadruple (Uṣūl al Tafsīr , Uṣūl al Ḥadīth, Uṣūl al Fiqh & Sīrah of the Prophet ﷺ)

Here, a student will learn the details of the belief system in Islām, metaphysics, the reality of things and gain a strong grounding in the truthfulness of Islām.

A student will go through a system which will develop his/her ʿAqīdah strength from basic beliefs, then the proofs of basic beliefs, and then combating opposing forces against those beliefs such as other religions, sects and methodologies. Hence, there will be four modules for this subject

Work:ʿAqīdah al Ṭaḥāwiyyah” (by al Imām Abū Ja’far Muḥammad b. Salāmah b. Salimah al Ṭaḥāwiyy al Ḥanafī al Miṣrī)

This is a universally accepted short treatise that covers the core beliefs of the Salaf that a Muslim must believe in to be considered from Ahl al Sunnah wa Al Jamā’ah, the only group of Muslims going to Paradise. A clear explanation of the significance of ʿAqīdah and in-class commentary on the treatise will be delivered by the teacher.
Work: “Umm al Barāhīn” by (al Imām Abū ‘Abdullāh Muḥamad b. Yūsuf b. ‘Umar al Sanūsī al Mālikī).

In this work, the student will be introduced to Kalām/Islamic Theology. A student will learn the textual & rational proofs for the topics of Ilāhiyyāt (Divinity), Nubuwwāt (Prophethood) and Sam’iyyāt (Unseen). By learning the proofs for and rebuttals against, a student will gain confidence in the beliefs of Islām and will be able to defend and establish Islām amidst a Godless world.
Work: Class Notes (by teacher)

The teacher will give lecture notes regarding different religions covering the main religions in the world today such as Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism etc. Sects will include those who deny the Qur’ān, Ḥadīth or attack the Salaf etc.

Each lecture will cover the following points regarding each religion and sect:
  • Brief History & Origins
  • Core Beliefs
  • Proofs For
  • Proofs Against
  • Rebuttals
Work: Al Madkhal Al Wajeez: A Compendious Introduction to the Study of Modern Isms by Ml Muineddeen Hassem

With the colonisation and onslaught of the Modern Western Hegemony on the globe, most Muslims are swayed away with philosophies, mindsets, hidden beliefs, and worldviews that contrast the fabric of Islām. The Matrix of modern media, politics and education have only exacerbated this crisis.

Many even study ʿAqīdah and Fiqh but weigh things on the scales of false ideologies hence actualising the sign of Judgement Day where “nothing will remain of Islām except its name”. (Al Bayhaqī in Shu’ab al Īmān 3/317-318)

By studying this work, a student will in shā Allāh flush out these false ideologies. Some examples of these ideologies are secularism, liberalism, humanism, scientism etc.

The study of Fiqh is about studying the extracts of the Qur’ān and Sunnah in detail. It includes the issues any person will face in life with detailed solutions and guidance.

It will cover aspects from:

  • ‘Ibādāt (Worship: purification, prayer, fasting etc)
  • Mu’āmalāt (Financial Dealings: buying, selling, leasing etc)
  • Mu’āsharāt (Social Dealings: Marriage, Divorce, Custody, Inheritance etc)
  • References to contemporary issues and challenges
  • Practical Demonstrations where needed

Dar Al Irshad is perhaps the only online institute offering the learning of the Four Schools of Fiqh by traditional non-modernist scholars.

Work: Tasḥil al Ḍarūrī of the Masāil of Qudūrī (by Muftī ‘Ashiq Ilāhī al Muhājir al Madanī, trans. by Muftī Afzal Hossen Elias)

Islām provides guidance on both the inwardly & outwardly aspects of the human being. Whilst DAIIEC02 Fiqh will cover the outward aspects, DAIIEC03 Islamic Spirituality & Akhlāq will cover the inward aspects.

Basically, this subject has two purposes:

  • Building a relationship with Allāh the Exalted
  • Rectifying One’s Soul by takhliyah (diagnosing the evil traits of the self and treating them) and taḥliyah (adorning oneself with good traits)

Works:
  • The Beginning of Guidance (Bidāyah al Hidāyah) by al Imām al Ghazālī
  • The Path to Perfection (Sharī’ah & Taṣawwuf) by Shaykh Masīḥullāh Khān
The ʿUlamā have developed detailed sciences which explain the origins of Islāmic sources and rulings. Many Muslims today lack a basic understanding of these sources hence fall into erroneous errors. Some have doubts regarding the origins of the Qur’ān, some totally and/or partially deny the Sunnah, some have issues with Fiqh and scholars, and some lack the feel of a basic Islamic identity.

Hence, Dar Al Irshad has placed in a quadruple: a course comprising four modules with each part catering to specific issues:
Uṣūl al Tafsīr will comprise of a study of the origins of the Qur’ān and its exegesis. It will equip the student with the necessary information and proofs regarding the Qur’ān and remove any lingering doubts about it.

In this Module, the following points will be covered:
  • Waḥy (Divine Revelation)
  • About the Qur’ān: Āyahs, Ṣūrahs, Abrogation etc
  • Preservation of the Qur’ān: Orally & by Writing
  • Seven Aḥruf & Qirā’āt
  • Miraculous Nature of the Qur’ān
  • Tafsīr: Quranic Exegesis- Its Prerequisites
  • Tafāsīr & Mufassirūn: Exegeses & Exegetes
  • Contemporary Tafāsīr
  • Approaching the Qur’ān

Work: Class Notes (by teacher) Recommended Reading: An Approach to the Qur’ānic Sciences by Muftī Taqī Usmanī
Uṣūl al Ḥadīth will comprise to explain the origins of Ḥadīth, types of Ḥadīth and how the science works. Strong emphasis will be given to explaining the significance of the Ḥadīth corpus and rebutting any doubts and misconceptions regarding it.

In this Module, the following points will be covered:
  • Ḥujjiyyah of Ḥādīth: The Proof of Ḥadīth
  • History of Preservation of Ḥādīth Orally & In Writing
  • Types of Ḥādīth
  • Ḥadīth Narrators: ‘Adālah & Jarḥ
  • Books of Ḥādīth
  • Ḥadīth Today

Work: An Introcuction to Uṣūl al Ḥadīth (by al Imām ‘Abdul Ḥaq al Muḥaddith al Dihlawī, trans. by Muftī Ḥuzaifah b. Ādam)
Fiqh is a system of guidance for all Muslims. Without Fiqh, no one will be able to apply Islām in their lives. Module Three of DAIIEC04 intends to build the significance of Fiqh, its necessity, a brief history of its development & how it works.

In this Module, the following points will be covered:
  • Necessity of Fiqh, Taqlīd & Harms of Discarding Them
  • Adillah: The Four Main Sources of Islamic Law
  • Types of Aḥkām (Rulings)
  • Manners of Expression in Nuṣūṣ (Religion Texts)

Work: The Principles of Fiqh Made Easy (by Muftī Muḥammad ‘Ubaydullāh al As’adī, trans. Muftī Afzal Hoosen Elias)
All Muslims love the Prophet ﷺ to an extent. Yet, loving him requires emulating him in all aspects of one’s life. One cannot hope to emulate a person unless he/she knows him. Hence, Dar Al Irshad has put together a fourth module in DAIIEC04 to fulfill that role.

In this Module, the following points will be covered:
  • Birth of the Prophet , His Childhood & Adulthood
  • His Makkī Life
  • His Madanī Life
  • His personality, qualities
